Top 10 Best-Selling Cars in Recent Years

Top 10 Best-Selling Cars in Recent Years

The car market evolves rapidly, with trends and consumer preferences constantly shifting. Still, a few models manage to hold their ground year after year. That’s why this ranking considers multi-year sales data—not just a single year. The top three have remained strong for a long time, making them especially worth your attention.

1. Toyota Corolla

The Unshakable Leader

The Toyota Corolla has reigned supreme for four consecutive years, and that says a lot. It's the perfect mix of affordability, performance, reliability, and everyday usability. In 2022 alone, 629,000 units were sold, while in 2021, sales reached 985,000.

Now in its 20th generation, the Corolla has recently seen a design refresh, though it retains a largely classic look. Toyota is known for being conservative with its design—yet that hasn’t stopped the Corolla from becoming the world’s most purchased car.

2. Toyota Camry

Comfort Meets Performance

Another top contender from Toyota is the more upscale Camry. Toyota’s global sales hit 7.3 million cars in 2022, with the Camry contributing nearly 606,000 units.

Like the Corolla, the Camry has been lightly restyled—focusing more on interior upgrades. Despite changes, it remains instantly recognizable and widely loved.

3. Honda CR-V

Practical, Stylish, and Reliable

The Honda CR-V stands out in the SUV category. Now in its sixth generation, it has evolved significantly in both design and technology. Yet its winning formula—reliability, value, and comfort—remains the same.

Sales hit 713,000 in 2021 but dropped to 449,000 in 2022, largely due to the global shift toward electric vehicles. Even with a hybrid option, the CR-V felt the impact of this growing trend.

4. Toyota RAV4

Compact SUV, Big Appeal

Toyota strikes again with the RAV4—a lightweight, all-wheel-drive crossover that's been a hit since its debut. Its best sales years were 2020 (915,000 units) and 2021 (965,000), though sales dipped to 654,000 in 2022.

First launched in 1994, the RAV4 has matured into a stylish and powerful SUV, ideal for both business and family use. Hybrid options are available too.

5. Ford F-Series

America’s Favorite Workhorse

Ford’s F-Series trucks, especially the F-150, dominate in the U.S. and perform strongly globally. These full-size pickups are powerful, versatile, and surprisingly comfortable.

Sales reached 851,000 in 2021 but dipped slightly to 767,000 in 2022. Still, the F-Series remains one of the best-selling vehicle lines worldwide.

6. Hyundai Tucson

Korean Crossover Success

The Hyundai Tucson was the second best-selling compact SUV in 2022. Popular in Europe, Russia, and especially the U.S., it’s known for being affordable and practical.

Sales totaled 478,000 in 2021 and 410,000 in 2022. The decline reflects the broader pivot toward electric cars, but Tucson remains Hyundai’s top performer.

7. Chevrolet Silverado

A Worthy Pickup Rival

The Chevrolet Silverado holds its own among top-selling vehicles. A rugged yet efficient alternative to Ford’s trucks, it’s also something of a pop culture icon—appearing in Kill Bill and Lady Gaga’s “Telephone” video.

Sales were strong at 580,000 in 2021 and 466,000 in 2022, making it Chevy’s best-selling model both years.

8. Tesla Model 3

Leading the Electric Revolution

Electric cars are surging in popularity, and the Tesla Model 3 is at the forefront. With intuitive controls, advanced autopilot features, and eco-friendliness, it’s one of Europe’s top-selling cars—moving over 23,000 units in 2022.

Globally, it sold 552,000 units in 2021 and 535,000 in 2022. Tesla hit a milestone that year, selling over 1.3 million vehicles in total.

9. Volkswagen Polo

Compact, Efficient, and Trusted

Despite competition from EVs, the Volkswagen Polo remains a favorite, especially in Europe. It's small, fuel-efficient, and surprisingly capable on rougher roads.

Global sales were 390,000 in 2020, 353,000 in 2021, and 211,000 in 2022. While it's slipping from the spotlight, it continues to be a strong player on the used-car market.
